Questions Reveal The Heart

Drawing from Matthew 22, this sermon examines a series of challenges posed to Jesus by the Pharisees and Sadducees just days before the crucifixion. Rather than exposing Jesus, these carefully constructed questions ultimately expose the questioners themselves -- their hidden motives, their closed mindsets, their scriptural misunderstandings, and who truly holds mastery over their hearts. The Pharisees attempt to trap Jesus with a political question about taxes, and Jesus responds by redirecting attention to the image of God stamped on every human being, calling people to render themselves fully to their Creator. The Sadducees, who deny the resurrection, attempt a theological trap, and Jesus dismantles their argument by affirming that God is not the God of the dead but of the living. The sermon calls believers to approach God with humility and surrender rather than with predetermined conclusions, and to recognize that bearing God's image means belonging to him entirely.
